STAMPS

 DUNE HOUSE

This building was originally constructed by Charles Hudson Stamps

and Rachel Brown Stamps in 1985 as their dream retirement home.

Charles acted as general contractor, using designs adapted from an

earth shelter kit. The Stamps loved nature and enjoyed sharing their

unique home, including the view from the cupola and trails to the

beach with friends, family and church groups. Charles and Rachel

had a long history of supporting nature programs for families and

youth. Charles was honored for his significant involvement in the

creation of the nearby Samoa Dunes Recreation Area.

After Rachel and Charles passed away, and in their memory, the

Stamps Family Trust sold a large portion of the property and the

house to Friends of the Dunes in 2007 for conversion into the

Humboldt Coastal Nature Center - a place for people to gather,

 learn, explore and appreciate nature.
