100 Years of Coal, Nanaimo

A reminder of Nanaimo's coal mining past, this monument symbolizes the 1849-1949 period. At its base is a small plaque placed in 1987 by the United Mine Workers, possibly to recognize the 1887 explosion that killed 150 workers.
