The millennium stone is seen in context here SK2362 : Birchover millennium stone 2000 The inscription below reads "Millennium stone. This stone from which a circular core has been cut exemplifies the former industry of millstone production in Birchover. These were made from the local gritstone and exported to many parts of the world. The carved motif on the base is a copy of a Romanesque carving, discovered in a stone wall at Uppertown, Birchover, and is a fragment from a church, no longer existing, built in the late 11th or early 12th century."
