Monterey's First Railroad 

The Monterey and Salinas Valley Railroad was 
constructed as a narrow-gauge, granger railroad 
linking Monterey to the rest of California. For the 
first time, Monterey was easily reached by land 
bringing hope to Monterey's new destiny.
