The plaque reads: Borough of Torbay On the 7th March, 1979, the Worshipful Mayor of Torbay (Councillor R.J.C. Coombe) planted the nearby plane tree to commemorate the beginning of the work creating the public landscaped park here on the site of the former Hollicombe Gas Works W.A.
