Wellington Coal Mine Interpretive Plaque

This historical marker is located on the site of the No.5 Pit of the Wellington Colliery; just one of over 50 mines opened in the Nanaimo area. It lists the names and/or payroll numbers of 77 miners killed in the 1888 explosion at the mine.
