The tenth in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This tenth one relates to the reign of George V (i.e. 1910-1936). The town holds Britain's first air show as part of its centenary celebrations, during which Charles Rolls of Rolls-Royce fame is killed during a landing. The Mount Dore hotel acts as a military hospital during World War I and is later purchased by the council and becomes SZ0891 : Bournemouth: Town Hall. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaques for the introductory plaque, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for an overall view of five of the plaques, providing some context. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (9) for the previous plaque in the series, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (11) for the next one.
