Enquist Block

One of a series of historical markers placed on contributing buildings in Seattle's Ballard Avenue Historic District in 2007 by the Ballard Historical Society. Plaque text: In 1898 Swedish merchant tailors Frank and Arthur Enquist opened their first tailor shop down the street in the Swanson Block at 5140 Ballard Avenue. Through their success at that location, they were able to build this classic brick structure in 1906 to house their tailoring business. In 1915 the Enquists opened a hall for public use within the building. In addition to commerce, Frank Enquist was involved in Ballard politics and served as councilman for the Second Ward in 1907. By the 1920s Anderson Furniture and Carpeting had moved into this building and remained in business here for three decades. Built 1906 Ballard Historical Society (Submitted by Rob Ketcherside)
