Constructed in 1925 to seat 3,500 people, the Greek Theater was once the site of academic convocations, rallies, pageants, and commencement exercises. The area behind the stage, which students call "The Enchanted Forest," once featured a reflecting pool overlooked by a statue of Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. The pool was covered in 1960. Through the years, students have used the theater for outdoor events, as a gathering place, or as a quiet location to study and enjoy nature.
